What is Eyebrow Transplantation?

Eyebrow transplantation, typically preferred by women, is a procedure performed on individuals whose eyebrows have lost their appearance due to various reasons (burns, accidents, trauma, frequent plucking causing eyebrow thinning, etc.) or those who were born without eyebrows.

The procedure shares similarities with hair transplantation and is performed using the FUE technique. Grafts taken from the donor area at the nape are placed into pre-opened channels in the eyebrow area to complete the procedure. Before the procedure, the desired eyebrow shape, suitable for the individual’s facial structure, is drawn on the eyebrow area by a specialist dermatologist. Following the drawing, the desired density and thickness are calculated, and the approximate number of grafts required is determined.

How is eyebrow transplantation performed?

Just like in hair transplantation, local anesthesia is applied in eyebrow transplantation. After anesthesia, small channels are opened using lateral slits. The necessary grafts for transplantation are collected individually with the help of a micromotor/manual punch and placed into the previously opened channels. Although the procedure duration varies depending on the number of grafts, it typically takes 2-4 hours on average.

In what kind of environment should eyebrow transplantation be performed?

Grafts collected for eyebrow transplantation should be extracted from the nape area at an angle of approximately 10-15 degrees. Otherwise, it may result in both health complications and an undesirable aesthetic appearance. Additionally, any procedure not conducted in a clinical setting adhering to sterilization and hygiene standards poses significant risks to human health. Special care must be taken during procedures on the skin surface, which is particularly susceptible to infections.

What changes occur in transplanted eyebrows?

After the initial session, some of the transplanted eyebrows may shed. This is a normal process. Following the shedding, the eyebrows grow back. Initially, thin and weak eyebrow strands are observed, but over time, the eyebrows start to thicken.

What should be considered after eyebrow transplantation?

It is essential to protect the transplanted area after eyebrow transplantation. Following the doctor’s recommendations, precautions such as avoiding contact with water, keeping the area dry, and refraining from washing should be taken. Eyebrows should not be dyed during the period until clear results are achieved after the procedure. Additionally, cosmetic products like lotions or creams should not be used for a few days following the eyebrow transplantation.

When do shed eyebrows grow back?

Within the first week after eyebrow transplantation, scabbing and shedding occur. The process of achieving a natural appearance for the eyebrows is completed at the end of one year.
