Consultation (Diagnosis)

Before the operation, in order to meet the patient’s expectations correctly, a program is created, taking into account the patient’s medical history (whether there are any factors that could prevent hair follicle growth after the hair transplant) and including necessary laboratory tests (such as Hemogram, Anti HIV, Anti HCV, HBsAg, APTT, Prothrombin time, etc.). The consultation process lasts between 20 to 45 minutes. If the patient fills out the information form digitally before coming for a face-to-face consultation, the duration may vary.

It is necessary to perform laboratory tests to avoid encountering any problems that could endanger the patient’s health. International patients must fill out the patient information form accurately and completely during their first visit to our clinic. After the tests are examined in our biochemistry laboratory, if there are no issues, the test and analysis process for the hair transplant will proceed.

Things to know during the consultation phase:

  • If the patient is using any medication, they should inform the doctor.
  • The patient should not cut their hair before the operation.
  • If the patient knows or suspects any allergic conditions, they should inform the doctor.

Test & Analysis

In the test and analysis process, the hairline where the hair transplant will be performed is determined. The hair and scalp are examined. Depending on the patient’s skull structure and facial proportions, the temples, front, or crown area are filled. The determination of the hairline, which varies from person to person, is crucial for the post-operation results. Then, an evaluation of the average graft number is made. The estimated graft number helps determine the operation time. After the patient decides to undergo the hair transplant procedure, an approval form is filled out. The approval form should be read carefully and filled out completely.

Operation

After the patient is brought into the hair transplant room, they change into sterile surgical clothing and lie face down on the stretcher, and the procedure begins. If desired, the patient can watch TV or listen to music while lying down in the room. Since the procedure takes a long time, breaks are taken during the operation, and the patient can have meals during these breaks.

  • Once the patient is in the face-down position, the scalp is disinfected for sedation. Then, anesthetic medication is administered, and the effects of the sedation are usually felt within 15-20 minutes.
  • Hair follicles (grafts) are collected using two different methods: micromotor FUE and manual punch. The hair follicles are extracted carefully from the donor area, without causing any damage to the skin or cell structure.
  • The collected grafts are placed into a petri dish for separation from unnecessary tissue fragments. Note: To ensure the hair follicles remain viable and unharmed until implantation, they must be kept in a cold environment. Healthy hair follicles, once separated from the tissue fragments, are placed on a sterile gauze.
  • The channels where the grafts will be implanted are then opened. The number of channels opened corresponds to the number of hair follicles collected for the procedure.

The main criteria especially considered during the test and analysis phase;

  • The number of grafts to be collected from the donor area,
  • Which area the hair transplant will be performed and how many hair follicles will be transplanted,
  • The starting point and shape of the hairline.

What should be considered during the channel opening process?

The hair follicles transplanted into the opened channels should be placed at an average angle of 30 degrees for a natural appearance, and the depth should be adjusted based on the structure and size of the follicles. To avoid the “grass man” artificial look, the angle of the follicles should be directed towards the face. This is why the experience of the doctor is crucial.

  • The direction of the opened channels directly affects the way the hair will lie to the right or left, vertically or forwards. Therefore, it is important to be very meticulous about the channel direction.
  • The transfer of hair follicles into the opened channels takes an average of 1-2 hours. After transplantation, it is crucial to handle the hair follicles with great care.
